Common causes and treatments of UTI’s. A conversation with our resident expert, Dr. Angelica M. Hernandez.

We have received many questions about our Rejuvenate product, and how it can be used with common intimate issues.  One of the most popular subjects is around Urinary Tract Infections, or UTI’s.

urinary tract infection UTI questions answered by experts, and how intimate area moisturizer can help

Simply put, UTIis an infection of the urinary system, including your bladder and urethra. Anyone can get a UTI, but they’re more common if you have a vulva,” as noted by Planned Parenthood.

As women are more susceptible to UTI’s, we turned to our expert, Dr. Angelica M. Hernandez, Obstetrician/Gynecologist at Lexington Medical/ Smooth Synergy Medical Spa in New York, to explain what causes a UTI, some common treatments, and how Rejuvenate can be beneficial for recovery.

What is the cause of a UTI?

Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) usually happen when women hold their urine for a long time or when they have intercourse with a full bladder.  It’s recommended to go to the bathroom often (at least every 3 hours) and to urinate before (preferably) or after intercourse.

How can we treat a UTI during pregnancy?

At every visit during prenatal care, we check the patient’s urine to make sure she doesn’t have a urinary tract infection.

There are antibiotics that can be given during pregnancy and won’t affect the baby.

Can Rejuvenate be used after a UTI?

Yes, Rejuvenate is a wonderful cream  that will help to give TLC (Tender Loving Care) to this area after the infection.

What are the symptoms of a UTI?

A UTI can manifest in many ways ~ the most common are burning during urination, urinary frequency, blood in the urine, suprapubic or lower back pain, fever, malaise, and occasional nausea and vomiting.

How can we prevent a UTI?

Women can prevent urinary tract infections by going to the bathroom frequently and urinating before intercourse.  A small number of women often get urinary tract infections after intercourse even if they do so.

Can we prevent UTIs with probiotics?

No… Probiotics helps more to prevent vaginitis.

Another recent article in Healthline states that continuous vaginal dryness can be one of the causes of an UTI, and that moisturizers for the intimate area can help reduce the likelihood.  Rejuvenate is a great solution for vulva dryness, as its non-greasy formula provides protection and continual moisture.
